ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Mitchell Aiello is originally from the Detroit, MI area. He graduated as a BFA Musical Theatre major from Oakland University in Auburn Hills, MI in 2016.  Mitch has performed consistently around the country since graduation in regional theatres, children's theatres, and one National tour.

Mitchell was officially promoted in October 2019 as Artistic Director of Great Plains Theatre in Abilene, Kansas. He tackles all responsibilities of the Artistic Director as well as the Education Director. Mitch has directed, choreographed, and written many shows for Great Plains Theatre since starting the new position. He continues to grow all programming and bring quality artistic vision and integrity to all forms of art presented to the Central Kansas region.

 

Great Plains Theatre is a professional, non-union, regional theatre. The theatre is in the small town of Abilene, Kansas which is home to Dwight D. Eisenhower. GPT brings in a wide variety of talent from across the country to perform in Main Stage productions, and Theatre for Young Audience shows. They are also well known for their Youth Academy, Plain Great Players, consisting of talent in the community ranging from ages 4 to 18.

EDUCATION DIRECTOR

As Education Director being included with the position of Artistic Director, Mitchell has the privilege of working with extremely talented youngsters in the community and region. 

Mitch continues to break Great Plains and Plain Great Players (PGP) records with his direction of the Youth and TYA productions. Over 200 kids ages 4-18 are regularly involved in his programming. He has included up to 60 kids in one production!  He is so proud of their hard work and for this successful youth program!

 

Mitchell is the director and organizer of the Live Literature series at GPT. He organizes and creates shows for students in the area that bring classic literature to life through art and entertainment. Mitch also conducts all summer camps at Great Plains Theatre for kids. In addition, he runs workshops, conducts classes, and more with ages 4-18 and under in the central Kansas region. He is proud to announce that he has grown the Youth Academy programming by more than double within the first 11 months of assuming the position and over 5 times in the past three years.

Having worked with kids, teens, and young adults in his professional career, Mitch is a trained audition/acting/vocal/business coach. He has coached individually and conducted masterclasses for ages 5-23. Something that he feels very strongly about is teaching the future of our industry. "Any knowledge that I have or anything that I have learned is NOT for me to keep - it is for me to share, mentor, and inspire to all those around to keep the arts and creativity alive!"
