Biography
Mitchell Aiello is originally from the Detroit, MI area. He graduated as a BFA Musical Theatre major from Oakland University in Auburn Hills, MI in 2016. He is now the Artistic/Education Director at Great Plains Theatre in Abilene, Kansas. Some notable roles that Mitch has played include Younger Brother (Ragtime), Cat in the Hat (Seussical), Harold Bride (Titanic the Musical), Ted (Disaster!), Pinocchio (Shrek the Musical), Smee (Peter and the Starcatcher), Corny Collins (Hairspray), Balladeer (Assassins), and Curly (Oklahoma!). He also completed his first National Tour in 2019 as Cap'n Turbot in Nickelodeon's PAW Patrol Live! "The Great Pirate Adventure!". Some of Mitch's favorite games are Skip-BO and What Do You Meme? When not performing or teaching, you can often find him eating a bag of chips with lots of dips while setting the latest trend! Mitchell would like to first thank his very supportive family for always cheering him on! He would also like to thank his professors and mentors for their wise guidance and inspiration. Mitchell has just begun his fourth year and the 29th Season at Great Plains Theatre in Abilene, Kansas. After closing the TYA show, "Pinocchio," it will mark the 25th show he has worked on at GPT since taking over his new position as Artistic/Education Director about three and a half years ago.
This past season on the Main Stage, he directed Footloose, Matilda, Jersey Boys, and The Christmas Schooner. He also choreographed Jersey Boys and The Christmas Schooner. In addition, he served as Lighting Designer for Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery & The Christmas Schooner and as the Scenic Designer for all of the Main Stage shows. Mitch is overjoyed to continue including Youth members into every show that he produces either on or off stage.
Mitchell continues to break records with his youth programs, the Plain Great Players Youth Academy and the Live Literature Series. In 2021, he produced Frozen Jr., Stuart Little, EMMA: A Pop Musical JV, and The Giver. In 2022, he produced Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr., The Ugly Duckling, and Wonderland High. To begin 2023, he recently successfully produced Disney's Camp Rock the Musical and Pinocchio. Throughout these youth productions, Mitch acts as the director, scenic designer, sound designer, lighting designer, and marketing manager. Over 200 outstanding kids are now a part of this sensational program. He is so proud of their hard work and these successful productions!
Mitchell concluded his NATIONAL TOUR Debut in 2019! He played Cap'n Turbot in PAW Patrol Live! "The Great Pirate Adventure" with Nickelodeon and VStar Entertainment. He concluded his tour in Alaska performing in over 125 shows in 14 states over 6 months!
Mitchell has checked many dream roles off his bucket list recently! Some favorites have been Buddy the Elf (Elf the Musical), Snoopy (You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown), Cat in the Hat (Seussical) and Younger Brother (Ragtime)! Mitchell is the sole Artistic/Education Director of Great Plains Theatre in Abilene, KS. Great Plains Theatre is a professional, non-union, regional theatre where Mitch is directing, hiring, auditioning, casting, and choreographing while choosing shows and taking artistic liberties to excel the professional theatrical experience in Kansas. The 29th Season (2023) is just beginning and looking to be the most exciting season yet with 8 productions total.
